Voice
Advocating for Justice, Living Our Faith
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” – Psalm 82:3
MUMC's Voice ministry is committed to the active pursuit of social justice in alignment with the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church. Our mission is to inform, educate, and most importantly—engage—our congregation in meaningful conversations and actions that uplift the dignity and rights of all people.
We serve as a resource hub for the church community, sharing opportunities for advocacy, education, and outreach. Whether it’s through highlighting pending local and national legislation, promoting community events, or offering ways to support marginalized voices, our goal is to give voice to those suffering from injustice—whether through personal circumstances or systemic issues.
This ministry offers many ways for you to get involved in the work for justice, compassion, and inclusion. Whether you're looking to take action, share ideas, or simply learn more, we encourage you to join us, and welcome your input and participation. Here are some highlights of our recent and ongoing social advocacy activities:
- Write or contribute articles to our Outreach newsletter on social justice or environmental topics.
- Share green living tips or advocate for sustainable practices in our congregation.
- Help make worship more accessible by exploring support for ASL interpretation and promoting hearing-assistive technology.
- Join or help organize donation drives, such as GotSneakers, to support sustainability and fundraising efforts.
- Partner with community organizations—like the local library or advocacy groups—to host educational events or discussions.
• Attend community gatherings that celebrate diversity and raise awareness, such as Juneteenth events.
- Post and distribute support resources for local causes, including domestic violence awareness and mental health support.
- Participate in letter-writing or advocacy campaigns, such as those addressing immigration or justice issues within the church.
- Volunteer at justice-focused displays and events, like the Sacred Ally Quilt Ministry.
- Help promote events for LGBTQ+ inclusion, such as Trans Family gatherings or Pride advocacy.

New members are always welcome—whether you're passionate about a specific cause or simply want to get involved in meaningful, faith-driven work.
